Ollie, grind, switch, manual, kickflip, bluntslide, revert manual, sloppy, faceplant. Go again. OlliOlli was never a particularly complicated game, but it was about as close as you can get to mechanical perfection. This translated into an incredibly satisfying, technical, skill-based challenge with impeccable flow whether you’re rocking your timed landings, or your faceplants.
Next to its sequel, OlliOlli feels like a proof of concept, and OlliOlli 2: Welcome to Olliwood turns that concept into a much bigger and plain ol’ awesomely fun game, the THPS2 of fast and freaky 2D skating. OlliOlli 2: Welcome to Olliwood, like its predecessor, is not an easy game to master – particularly with all the new tricks and modes that you’ll have to practice, but even the basics of just getting through a level in with your board in once piece are both fun and rewarding.
